Jack Warner has tested COVID-19 positive and is currently receiving treatment for the virus.

Reports that the 77 year old contracted the virus began circulating on Wednesday night, however the news was confirmed on Thursday morning,  via a post on the former National Security Minister’s Facebook page.

“Pleasant morning all, the reports are true. Mr. Warner has tested positive for Covid-19 and is in fact being treated. He wishes to advise all, that he is alive and in good spirits, as always,” the statement read.

Warner is the second politician in Trinidad and Tobago to test positive for COVID-19, with Dr. Tim Gopeesingh being the first.

Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley, had gone into quarantine having been exposed to someone on election day (August 10th) who later tested positive for the virus, however his results returned negative.

Trinidad and Tobago currently has 1,213 active cases of COVID-19.
