Jamaican National Charged With Murder

A 25-year-old Jamaican national appeared before the Criminal Court, North A, on Monday 6th July 2026, after being charged with the murder of 45-year-old Sterling Francois of Scallion Circular, Trestrail Lands, D’Abadie.

Deandre Markland, 25, of Holly Betaudier Avenue, Phase 4-2, Malabar, Arima, appeared before Master Lisa Singh-Phillip, who adjourned the matter to 30th October 2026 for a Status Hearing. Markland was formally charged on Saturday 4th July 2026 by WPC Mohammed of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region II, following legal advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Roger Gaspard.

He was arrested on Friday 26 June 2026 in the Malabar district by Cpl Mitchell of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, after investigators received instructions on Wednesday 1 July 2026 to proceed with the murder charge.

The charge stems from the death of Mr. Francois, who was found at his residence on Saturday 20 June 2026. The investigation was supervised by A/ASP Victor, Sgt Radhaykissoon, and PC Subiah (Legal) of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region II.
