Joe Biden & Kamala Harris Named Time’s ‘Person Of The Year’

By Newsroom

US President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris grace the cover of the Time Magazine for it’s ‘Person of the Year’ edition.

The pair was victorious against Donald Trump in the Novemember 3rd US Presidential election, with Biden declaring victory four days later on the 7th.

“For changing the American story, for showing that the forces of empathy are greater than the furies of division, for sharing a vision of healing in a grieving world, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are TIME’s 2020 Person of the Year,” wrote Time editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal.

Biden and Harris’ win was historic for several reasons- Kamala Harris has become the first woman and African-Asian American to be elected to the role of Vice President.

Joe Biden has also broken the number of votes won by any US Presidential candidate, with more than 81 million votes.

Their win has also made Donald Trump a one-term President- joining nine other US presidents in history  who were rejected by the American voters they had led for four years.

Time magazine’s tradition of singling out an especially influential person started in 1927, launching as Man of the Year. The name was later changed to Person of the Year, which is bestowed on an individual, a group, a movement or an idea that had the most influence in the past year.
