Kamla: “Government Must Take Responsibility For Covid Spike”

By Newsroom

Responding to new Public Health Regulations announced by government on Friday afternoon, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar chastised government for what she described as its “abject mismanagement” of the pandemic.

Expressing his disappointment in citizens’ disregard for measures put in place to curb the rapid spread of the virus, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley called on the population to have regard for those who have been impacted by the virus and the medical healthcare professionals who are severely overburdened.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh lamented that several patients have, on their death beds, made admissions about going to mass gatherings, against the advice of health officials. He made the revelation as he, too, urged the public to understand the critical nature of the pandemic- and the role each person lays in getting the number of cases under control.

But the Opposition Leader, responding via a statement hours after the government press conference, said government must accept the blame.
