Kamla: Relaxed Covid Rules Are Attempt To Distract From Paria Tragedy

By Newsroom

Meanwhile, the Opposition UNC is accusing government of attempting to distract the public from last Friday’s tragedy in which four divers lost their lives.

Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar said a statement today that hospital occupancy rates were only on the decline due to the extreme fear and lack of confidence in the healthcare system, implying people are instead choosing private treatment.

This as Dr. Rowley, while speaking in the Lower House today, revealed over the past two weeks, hospitalizations have gone from 40% to 31%.

“In making the announcements today, Rowley disregarded the findings of his own Committee into the management of Covid 19 which proved that the Ministry of Health’s Covid-19 propaganda team was misleading the country for two years,” she wrote.

“The Government’s own Covid-19 report outlined numerous serious issues including, overworked staff, shortages of critical drugs, a lack of crucial data and an absence of a comprehensive ICU policy,” she added.

Meanwhile, when asked to tell the Parliament what could’ve led to last Friday’s tragedy in which four divers lost their lives after being stuck in an underground pipeline, Energy Minister Stuart Young said  government would not speculate but instead, await the outcome of the investigation being carried out by the five-member team led by Attorney Shiv Sharma, which also includes representatives from BP and Shell.
