Kamla Tells UNC Members: “Look Closely At Who Are Supporting My Opponents”

By Newsroom

UNC Political Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has cautioned members of the United National Congress to look closely at the motives of her opponents, as the party is in the final leg of the race to its internal election.

Speaking at Monday night’s Virtual Report, Persad-Bissessar claimed that several members of the People’s National Movement and other political “enemies” of the UNC were in support of her losing her quest to be re-elected as leader- and pushed supporters to question why opponents of the party would want her challengers to take over.

She fired shots at Vasant Bharath and Devant Maharaj- both of whom served under her leadership as Ministers when she was Prime Minister from 2010-2015.

“When they sat in the Cabinet, not a word…not a squeak, nothing!” Persad-Bissessar fumed, adding “once 2015 came and went and we were out of government, every man jack feel them is boss.”

Mr. Bharath is Persd-Bissessar’s main contender for leadership of the party, meanwhile Mr. Maharaj failed to file his nomination papers, citing concerns that the UNC election machinery was operating in favor of the incumbent.

She referenced current UNC Senator Anil Roberts, as one of the examples of what she believes represents loyal party behavior.

“Anil was in the wilderness for a little while- but he never bad talked this party. Today he is with us as a brother and we welcome him,” she said.

She further accused her opponents and “haters” of spreading rumours that she was physically unwell and ill-equipped to lead the party for much longer.

“Yes I am sick,” she smiled, adding “I’m sick and tired and fed up of these traitors and hypocrites in our party.”

The UNC internal election is set to take place this coming Sunday, December 6th.
