King Thayo Has Plans To Bring Home A Grammy Award For His Upcoming Album “Afro Meets King”

By Lillian Searles

US-born, Trinidadian bred international recording and performing artiste, King Thayo has expressed his intentions of bringing a Grammy win to Trinidad and Tobago and creating opportunities for local artistes to be recognized and acclaimed internationally.

Sitting down for an interview with OJO World, he said, “Winning a grammy is the dream, but the goal is to keep the door open for other acts back home to be rewarded financially from their craft in our flourishing entertainment industry. Summing that up, I’m going to leave a legacy and be one of Trinidad’s greatest artists to have ever touched music outside of our Soca element.”

He has been the supporting act for Sage The Gemini for his “West For the Winter” tour and he has also headlined the world-famous “Mic Check Series”, which led to the performance for the NFL players association on the Juneteenth Black Lives Matter event put on by Texans Brennon Scarlet.

He also conquered the stage with Grammy Winner Macklemore, in front of a crowd of 10,000. His stellar performance led to him getting booked to perform at Dancing With The Stars,  Rogue Valley Edition.

When asked about his inspiration and what keeps him going, he said, “Inspiration comes from life generally. I take it from all around me. My life, life of friends and loved ones and from what the world is going through. The support of my family and friends mixed with the feeling I get when something goes from an idea that I alone can see and feel, into something that I can share with people that enjoy and appreciate the effort put into it? That drives me.” he said.

13 track album, “Afro Meets King”, aims to look into the future of Afro-Beat Diaspora Fusion of West African rhythms, and King Thayo’s Trinidadian roots. Thayo says he creates a soundscape filled with soulful melodies, down to earth lyrics coalescing around a rugged, baritone vocal texture, and that each song displays his ability to make fusing cultures sound so beautiful.

As he begins to wrap up production on his upcoming album, “Afro Meets King”, which will be available on all streaming platforms on October 30th, King Thayo already has plans to release two more albums for the year.

“Emotional Intelligence” will be released in November and will boast of life experiences involving matters of the heart. It’s a genre-bending body of work, which has been in the works for over a year.

December’s release will be a reggae album called “Journey”.
