Lord Nelson and band leader Rosalind Gabriel to receive honorary degrees from UWI

Renowned Calypsonian Lord Nelson and band leader Rosalind Gabriel are expected to be conferred with honorary doctorates from the University of the West Indies, St Augustine campus.

They are among five others including Surgeon and President of Howard University, Dr Wayne Frederick. According to the UWI, the degrees will be given during the university’s graduation ceremony that takes place on October 27, 28 and 29.

Sixteen others will also be conferred with honorary degrees across the UWI’s five campuses.

The list of T&T nationals who will receive honorary degrees are:

Dr. Shakuntala Haraksingh Thilsted of Trinidad and Tobago for contributions to Agricultural Science and Nutrition – Doctor of Science (DSc)

Ms. Ingrid L-A Lashley of Trinidad and Tobago for her work in Corporate Banking/Finance –Doctor of Laws (LLD)

Ms. Rosalind Gabriel of Trinidad and Tobago for her work as a Band Leader/Entertainer – Doctor of Letters (DLitt)

Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick of Trinidad and Tobago for contributions to Surgical Science – Doctor of Science (DSc)

Lord Robert Nelson of Trinidad and Tobago for contributions to culture and Calypso – Doctor of Letters (DLitt)
