Man, 32, Arrested For Possession Of Assortment Of Guns, Ammunition

One man was arrested and six illegal weapons and quantities of assorted ammunition seized by officers of the Central Division Task Force, during an early morning anti-crime exercise conducted in the Tortuga Village district on Saturday.

The exercise, coordinated by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Curtis Simon and Supt. (Ag.) Wayne Mystar, included officers of the Couva Criminal Investigations Department and was conducted between 4:30am and 8:30am, on Saturday 1st August, 2020.

During the exercise, the officers, acting on intelligence, proceeded to the Tortuga Village home of a 32-year-old man, where they executed a search warrant for firearms and ammunition.

The search resulted in the discovery and seizure of the following items.

1. One Cobra revolver;
2. One Maverick Mossberg pump-action shotgun;
3. One 12 gauge barrel;
4. Two 12 gauge shotguns;
5. One 12 gauge homemade shotgun;
6. One prohibited weapon, namely a nail gun;
7. 479 rounds of ammo for a nail gun;
8. 140 rounds of ammo; and
9. 75 12 gauge cartridges.

Seventeen spent casings and cartridges were also recovered in the house. 

The suspect was arrested in connection with the finds.

Investigations are ongoing.
