Man Charged With Possession of Firearm and Ammunition, Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Driving without Permit and No Certificate of Insurance

One man is expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate today, October 5th, 2023, to answer to charges of Possession of Firearm and Ammunition and Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Driving without a Permit and No Certificate of Insurance.

According to the TTPS, on Saturday 30th September 2023, whilst conducting exercises in the vicinity of Eastern Main Road, Barataria, officers observed a silver Nissan B14 breaching the traffic lights. The officers gave chase and intercepted the vehicle near the Maritime Roundabout. The vehicle was searched and officers found two illegal firearms.

The driver could not produce a Certificate of Insurance for the vehicle and refused to produce his driver’s permit. Further enquiries revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen on August 25th, 2023. The 26-year-old suspect was arrested and charged by WPC Baboolal and De Gannes for the offences.

The investigative team was headed by Snr. Supt. Edwards, W Supt George, A.S.P Calendar and Insp Ramsingh. Also during another exercise in the district, officers paid particular attention to cool-off zones in the Morvant, San Juan and Barataria districts for persons involved in the Larceny Motor Vehicle trade.

Acting on intelligence information, relative to a report of a Larceny Motor Vehicle yesterday in the Arouca Police Station district, the party of officers proceeded to the Evelyn Trace, Aranguez area, where a search was conducted and one white Nissan Tiida bearing false registration plates and with a tampered ignition and right rear and triangular door

Investigations are ongoing.
