Man Granted $20, 000 For Breach of Protection Order

A 49-year-old Supervisor from Tobago was granted bail for $20,000.00 when he appeared before Magistrate, Her Worship Indra Ramoo-Haynes at the Tunapuna Magistrate Court on Monday 29th January 2024, to answer to charges of Assault by Beating and Breach of Protection Order.

He is expected to reappear before a Magistrate on May 20th, 2024. It was reported that on January 25th, 2024, around 8:30 pm, the victim and the defendant were at home in Tunapuna when he started beating their two children with a leather belt, accusing them of stealing money from his wallet.

The victim made attempts to stop the defendant, in the process she received a blow to her back from the leather belt. An argument ensued between the victim and the defendant when he began beating her with the belt. The victim in company with her children went to the Tunapuna Police Station, where a report was made and a Protection Order issued.

The defendant was arrested the same day and subsequently charged the following day. Public members are asked to like and follow the TTPS via our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages for the latest news and information on matters of interest to the general public.
