Man granted 300,000 bail after allegedly assaulting common-law wife five times

A 30-year-old man was granted bail in the sum of $300,000 after he was charged with three counts of Assault by Beating, one count of Choking and one count of Assault by Threats.

The bail was granted with a surety by Magistrate Adrian Darmanie, at the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court on November 14 .

According to the TTPS as part of the bail conditions, the accused must refrain from contacting the victim directly or indirectly, stay 800 metres away from the victim and report to a police station, twice per week.

He is expected to reappear in court on 14th December 2022.

According to a TTPS statement on the matter:

“On five occasions between June 2022 and November 7th 2022, a man allegedly assaulted his common-law wife. On three occasions, the victim was allegedly beaten, on another occasion, the victim was allegedly choked and on the fifth occasion, the victim’s life was allegedly threatened.”

The matter was reported to the Gender Based Violent Unit (GBVU) on 10th November, 2022. Officers of the GBVU Chaguanas conducted an investigation into the matter, and as a result, a man was arrested and charged by Ag. Cpl. Jagroop of the Central Division –GBVU.

Investigations were supervised by W/Superintendent Claire Guy-Alleyne, W/ASP (Ag.) Lystra Bridglal, and W/Inspector Hospedales.
