Melly Rose Celebrates Debut Of “Body Good” on BET Soul

By Lillian Searles

Trinidadian-born singer Melly Rose is hoping to empower black women to love themselves and tear down the standard that defines what a good body is with a new single and accompanying video, titled “Body Good.”

In a release it said “Being born in the twin-island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and growing up the United States of America Melly has had first-hand experience as a woman of colour. Those experiences and others of close friends and relatives resonated in her mind even when creating this song which is being categorized as a “safe haven.”

Black women of varying skin tones and body types are seen in Melly Rose’s official music video for the song.

Throughout the video, she pays homage to the Black Lives Matter movement going on worldwide with BLM on her fingernails and other powerful symbolism, which is meant to send a clear message to viewers.

On September 15th 2020, the video premiered on BET Soul, which airs worldwide.

“I am thankful and excited” she says. “I am not sure if this opportunity has ever been afforded to anyone else from Trinidad and Tobago and I hope this opens the door for others to get the same opportunity,” she added.

The video radiates confidence, self-acceptance, and of course, body-positivity.

The song which attacks the topics of self-acceptance, body empowerment and confidence has been receiving tremendous support to date.

The release said, “It is Melly’s hope that through her reassuring vocals and accompanying upbeat production that “Body Good” makes significant progress in changing the mindset of how society views black women. The addition to BET Soul gives Melly reinforced hope that her message will heard and spread even further.”
