Memorial Day Parade 2023 Carded For November 12

The Ministry of National Security has announced the traditional National Day of Remembrance (Memorial Day) Parade on Sunday, November 12, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Park, Frederick Street, Port of Spain. Proceedings will also include a Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Cenotaph.

According to the MoNS:

The National Day of Remembrance is observed annually in honour of those who served and in memory of those who fell in the World Wars of 1914–1918 and 1939–1945.

The President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago; the Prime Minister; the Honourable the Chief Justice; the Minister of National Security and other Government Ministers; Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Members of Parliament, Heads of the Defence and Protective Services; Public Service officials; representatives of the Trinidad and Tobago Legion of Royal Commonwealth Ex-Services League; and other officials are expected to attend.

The Parade, comprising members of the Defence and Protective Services, as well as Civil Society Organizations, will convene at Queen’s Park Savannah East near Frederick Street and proceed South onto Frederick Street, then east onto Keate Street, entering Memorial Park via the southern entrance. Following the Ceremony, the Parade will exit Memorial Park via the northern entrance, proceed onto Queen’s Park West in a westerly direction, back to Queen’s Park Savannah East near Frederick Street where it will be dismissed.

Members of the Public and Invited Guests are asked to note the following: A Dress Rehearsal will be held on Thursday, November 09, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park, Frederick Street, Port of Spain. Proceedings on event day and at the Dress Rehearsal on Thursday November 09, 2023, will include two instances of ceremonial gun fire at 11:00 a.m. and 11:02 a.m. respectively. Persons in the immediate vicinity and surrounding environs are asked to take note.

This will not pose any threat to the general public. As is customary, Members of the Public can visit Memorial Park on Sunday November 12, 2023, from 12:30 p.m. to view the Cenotaph, pay their respects and lay wreaths to commemorate the event. Traffic Restrictions in place for the National Day of Remembrance rehearsals and observance will be published by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), in the coming days.

Parking for Invited Guests will be accommodated at alternate Parking Locations in Port of Spain, as follows, and as indicated specifically on the Parking Sticker enclosed within invitations:

a. The Paddock, Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain
b. The Ministry of Health car park, 4 – 6 Queen’s Park East, Port of Spain
c. The Port of Spain General Hospital Staff car park, using the entrance at the Maternity Ward.

Invited Guests are requested to display their Parking Stickers for viewing by Police Officers upon entering their respective Parking Locations.
