Minister: QPS North Stand Construction Continues After Thieves Tote Away Steel From Site

By Newsroom

The North Stand at the Queen’s Park Savannah will be completed within the next week, after construction was stymied by thieves who took off with steel beams from the site.

Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, Randall Mitchell, addressed the issue as he responded to an urgent question in the Senate on Wednesday.

“The replacement beams have been purchased, fabricated and the North Stand will be completed on or before February 2nd,” he said.

He was then asked by Senator Wade Mark whether any efforts have been made to apprehend the thieves.

“An internal investigation has commenced as well as a report has been made to police and the police are conducting enquiries,” Mr. Mitchell said.

The Minister could not provide, when asked, a figure to quantify the losses, however he said it could be provided at a later time.
