Minister Young: Efforts Ongoing To Cap Oil Flow From Overturned Vessel

By Newsroom

Energy Minister Stuart Young confirms that the oil flow from the Gulf Stream vessel which overturned off the coast of Tobago has not yet been capped off, given it is currently lodged in a reef area and existing sea conditions have made access difficult.

Addressing the House of Representatives this afternoon, Minister Young said two sets of divers have gone down to the site but have so far been unable to cap the leak.

Meanwhile, government is continuing investigations to determine the owner of the Gulf Stream vessel which overturned off the coast of Tobago nine days ago.

Minister Young says there are over 350 vessels with the name Gulf Stream, meaning narrowing it down will take some time.

He told the Lower House, the mere fact that no one has come forward to take responsibility for the vessel “speaks a thousand words”.
