Mix Master Gio Drops His First Trinibad Riddim “The Lash Up Riddim”
In collaboration with producer David “Kingston” Sheppard, DJ Gio has released the “Lash Up Riddim”, which will feature artistes Plumpy Boss, Kyler, Jahllano and Lead Pipe.
Giovanni Phillip, known as DJ Gio or Mix Master Gio, has been a DJ since he was 12 years old. After working at other local frequencies over the years, both on-air for radio and online stations, he landed a career in OJO World’s 96.1Wefm as a radio DJ at the age of 16 and has been a part of the OJO family ever since.
In the past 9 years of his career, DJ Gio has touched many stages and performed for hundreds of thousands of people. He has opened for Machel Montano’s world-famous event, Machel Monday, three years in a row. He has visited New York to DJ for Icebox Entertainment’s international boat-ride event, Suits, and also Barbados to DJ for their Crop Over carnival events. He is a familiar face during Trinidad’s Carnival season, as he can be seen on the stages of many fetes throughout the season, and heard through the speakers of many trucks on the road on Carnival Monday and Tuesday.
Doing his best to support the local dancehall genre, dubbed as “Trinibad”, Gio has thrown events in its honor, such as his club event “Private Zess”. He has also done Trinibad mixtapes on his Soundcloud account “MixMasterGio”, featuring artistes such as K Lion, Jahllano, Tafari, and the Trinibad Artiste that he DJs for, Prince Swanny.
