By Newsroom

A  52 year old woman appeared before a Sangre Grande Magistrates’ court on Monday, charged with one count of failing to report that her daughter had been sexually assaulted by her common law husband.

The woman was arrested by Eastern Division Child Protection Unit officers on Sunday and was subsequently charged.

She was granted bail in the sum of $500.

Meanwhile, the alleged perpetrator has since gone into hiding and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

In a separate incident, a 61-year-old driver from Tobago was arrested last Thursday and was later charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

During investigations, the girl revealed to officers that she had been sexually assaulted by the same man since she was seven-years-old.

Enquiries were conducted and he was arrested and charged with three counts of grievous sexual assault and three counts of sexual intercourse with a minor.

He appeared before the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court and was granted bail in the sum of $400,000 or $20,000 cash.

The Child Protection Unit is urging parents and guardians to exercise due diligence when it comes to the safety of their charges, especially during this period where children are at home and more susceptible to predators.
