The National Examinations Council (NEC) recently granted 13 students/residents of the St. Dominic’s Children’s Home, Level 1 Certifications, in Agriculture/Horticulture. The NEC and management of the Home got together to implement the programme that included 12 months of training.

The Programme which began in January 2021 had students engaged in an estimated 300 contact hours of training. The Chief Examiner (Ag), Mrs Paula Ferguson commended the students for their efforts in a final evaluation and award ceremony on Friday 10th December 2021.

She added that “the teenaged participants have significantly increased their skills sets, thereby setting them on their initial steps to becoming self-reliant, productive citizens of the country.”

The students have produced such a surplus of crops that some can be used by the students to prepare meals at the Home. Some of the surplus crops are also sold to generate income for themselves and replenish their inventory.
