No classes at Rose Hill RC Primary School for the rest of the week

By Shirvan Williams

There will be no more classes at the Rose Hill RC Primary School in Laventille for the rest of the week. The move comes as gangs in the area continue a war that resulted in gunfire that was heard echoing through the hills of Laventille on Monday.

According to reports, preliminary approval has been granted by the Ministry of Education for the staff and pupils to be temporarily relocated to St Dominic’s Children’s Home in Belmont.

A video showing a teacher and students lying on the ground in fear of stray bullets went viral last Monday, October 31.

The T&T Guardian spoke with the Catholic Education Board of Management (CEBM) CEO Sharon Mangroo who confirmed a building on the compound was designated for them to use and they are hoping to have the pupils back in school by next Monday.

“While we are aiming for Monday, the reality may be different, as the limiting factors are transport for students and for the furniture etc. The former may take a while to arrange, as there are costs to be approved.”
