The North West Regional Health Authority revealed on Thursday evening that the lead of the Infection Prevention Control Unit at the Port of Spain General Hospital has been sent on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into the deaths of several newborns at the hospital due to a bacterial outbreak.

In its latest update on the matter, the NWRHA referenced its initial number of seven preterm deaths, even though media reports have identified four other deaths outside of the April 4th-9th period which are being investigated.

It said another statement will be issued regarding the four other neonatal deaths for which it has received preaction protocol letters.
