Off duty cop shoots and kills a man who pointed a gun at him

A police officer who is on vacation leave, shot and killed man this morning, after the man was allegedly seen beating a woman with a gun. The incident happened early this morning (Feb. 8) in Longdenville.

The man has been identified as 36-year-old Renrick Phillip, of Mamoral #2 in Caparo man. Police reports indicate the man pointed the gun at the officer, who has not yet been identified. Investigations are ongoing.

Police issued the following statement on the incident:

“Quick intervention by an off-duty policeman saved the life of a woman early today, Saturday 8th February, 2020.
PC David Burgess of the Canine Unit, who is presently on vacation leave heard a commotion on the roadway in the vicinity of Frank Avenue, Longdenville. On investigating, he observed Renrick Hudson Phillip, 36, a construction worker from Mamoral in a dispute with a woman.

Mr Phillip took out a firearm from his waist and struck the woman, and both the firearm and the woman fell to the ground. He proceeded to pick up the firearm and pointed it at PC Burgess when he saw him. With the imminent threat to his life, PC Burgess then discharged three rounds from his personal firearm which struck the assailant.

The District Medical Officer, Dr. Charles visited the scene and made a pronouncement and ordered the removal of the body. The body was conveyed by Simpson’s Funeral Agency. The CSI processed the scene which was visited by Inspector Ragoo and other officers. Enquiries are continuing.”
