Officers Involved In Killing Of Three Youths Placed On Desk Duty

By Newsroom

Pending the outcome of an investigation into the shooting deaths of two young men and a teenager by police over the weekend, the officers involved in the incident have been placed on desk-duty.

This announcement came from Commissioner of Police, McDonald Jacb, during a media conference on Monday.

Seventeen year old Isaiah Williams, 21 year old Niko Williams and 22 year old Fabien Richards were shot dead by police in the early hours of Saturday morning as they were returning from a birthday party in Cocorite.

Cops alleged that the trio had been seen brandishing guns- a claim which their community has questioned, saying they were not known to be involved in crime.

Commissioner Jacob’s announcement came hours after residents in Beetham, Sea Lots and Laventille blocked the roadways burning debris in protest of the extrajudicial killings.

A total of eight arrests were made during Monday’s demonstrations.

The families of the three young men were visited by national security officials on Monday.

“To give them the assurance that the police stand (sic) for the rule of law and the matter is under investigation,” Jacob said.

The Acting Top Cop said the Professional Standards Bureau may be required to enter into the investigation at a later stage.

An independent investigation is also being conducted by the Police Complaints Authority, he said.
