By Newsroom

A maxi driver is warded at the San Fernando General Hospital after being attacked by a group of students.

Footage of the fight, which happened outside the Carapichama East and West Secondary Schools on Monday, has been rapidly shared online.

Speaking on the incident, President of the Route Three Maxi Taxi Association, Vickash Kissoondath, said the injured driver had approached the group with a wheel spanner in an attempt to break up an altercation among the students, however he then became the victim of a beating.

The driver is said to have suffered broken bones and suspected internal bleeding.

Kissondath maintains that the driver had not attacked the students first, and had only intended to stop the altercation.

The TTPS has stationed police officers outside the school compound.
