Soca Artiste, Olatunji

Award-winning Soca artiste, Olatunji Yearwood and International EDM Producers, Good Times Ahead, formerly GTA, collaborate on ‘Black Liberation’. The track fuses Black Empowerment and Caribbean influence, highlighting the importance of the freedom, liberation and the celebration of black people.

Good Times Ahead’s Julio Mejia and Matt Toth are Miami-born duo DJs/Producers, who have released music on labels such as Warner Bros., Diplo’s Mad Decent and more. They’ve toured the globe with Rihanna on her 2013 Diamonds World Tour, with Calvin Harris and Tiësto on their Greater Than World Tour, and have headlined their own Death To Genres Tour and Goons Take America Tour. In August 2019, they officially changed their group name from the previous GTA acronym to its full length, Good Times Ahead.

Olatunji Yearwood, better known as Olatunji or Ola, is a Trinidadian-born Soca, Calypso and Afrosoca artiste. As a young talent, Olatunji won many awards including the National Junior Calypso Monarch competition. He was crowned the International Groovy Soca Monarch King in 2015 with his breakout song, “Ola”. In 2016, Olatunji was featured in The Fader magazine as the face of the emerging genre, that fuses Socaand Afrobeats called Afrosoca. In 2018, Olatunji was featured as a contestant on The X Factor UK.

When asked why he chose to have the song be released on September 24th, Republic Day in Trinidad and Tobago, Olatunji said, “ The momentum is now. Black Liberation means everything right now. Freedom for black people all over the world from oppression is important right at this very moment in time. Republic Day to me is similar to Independence Day and signifies our road to freedom from colonial rule, and our celebration of achieving self-governance. Black people come from royalty, greatness and power and this song is meant to remind the world of that.”

Described as a hybrid Afro-Caribbean track, ‘Black Liberation’ is the first of many projects between Ola and Good Times Ahead.

‘Black liberation’ was Executively Produced by Chinese LAUNDRY Music and will be available on all music platforms. Be sure to check out the official music video on OJO World TT’s YouTube channel.
