Police have confirmed that one man is dead following a shootout in broad daylight along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway. A clip of a part of the incident that showed the assumed bandit running along the highway has since gone viral.

The man who was killed was pronounced dead on arrival at the Couva Health Facility. According to reports, the shootout occurred around 3:45 pm. Members of the Central Division Task Force were on inquiries at the surveillance point located on the highway, Couva when they had cause to engage a stolen vehicle with two occupants in the vicinity of the Indian Trail Flyover.

The two occupants fled the scene and tried to allegedly fire on the police officers as they tried to make good their escape. The officers gave chase and returned fire. During that encounter, one of the suspects was struck. He has not been identified as yet.

Police are still searching for the other gunman who was last seen running into some bushes off the southbound lane of the highway.
