One Man Dead After Police Involved Shooting

Investigations are underway following a police-involved shooting incident which occurred on the evening of 22nd June, 2026, in the San Juan district.

According to a statement from the TTPS:

At approximately 6:40 p.m., officers on mobile patrol responded to a report of an armed male in the Farroe Terrace area, San Juan. Upon arrival, officers observed a male being pursued by a group of individuals while reportedly armed with two knives. Officers intervened and issued verbal instructions for the individual to drop the weapons.

The suspect allegedly advanced towards one of the officers and inflicted injuries to the officer’s hand and upper arm. In response, and in keeping with the TTPS Use of Force Policy, one of the officers discharged a single round from his service firearm. The suspect then fled the scene.

Subsequently, additional TTPS units conducted searches in the surrounding area. At approximately 7:30 p.m., officers encountered a male matching the description along a bushy track near the San Juan River. According to reports, the individual was again armed with a knife and advanced towards officers while issuing threats. Officers discharged their service firearms, and the individual was struck.

The suspect was subsequently transported to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for medical attention, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He has been identified as 36-year-old Abraham Hackette of Farroe Terrace, San Juan.

One police officer sustained injuries during the initial confrontation and was treated at a medical institution. The officer is reported to be in stable condition and receiving further medical care. Scenes of the incident were processed by the Northern Division Emergency Response Unit Crime Scene Investigations personnel, and investigations are ongoing. All relevant protocols have been initiated, and the matter has been referred for further review in accordance with standard procedures.
