Only 1.6% of students who sat this year’s Secondary Entrance Assessment scored an overall total higher than 90%.

This is according to Education Minister Dr. Nyan Gadsby Dolly, who says 63% of students scored above 50% while 11% scored lower than 30%.

On a more positive note, the top six performers in this year’s Secondary Entrance Assessment are all girls.

Ameera Bheekoo of the San Fernando TML has been named the top SEA performer for 2020, while Anjaana Dan of Trinidad Renaissance Prep and Sushmita Ramsawak of Ghandi Memorial placed second and third respectively.

Dr. Gadsby-Dolly said the mean score for Mathematics was 52.9%, compared to 53.4% in 2019. The mean score for English Writing saw a slight decline to  52.9% compared to 53.4% in 2019. English Language saw a marked improvement, however, with a mean score of  60.7% compared to 53.8% in 2019.

Addressing students who might not have received their desired results, Minister in the Ministry of Education, Lisa Morris-Julian, urged the students to look on the brighter side.

“Some of us are late bloomers and it does not matter so much where you blossom, as much as the fact that despite what may, you continue to grow,” she said.

A total of 19,344 students sat the examination on August 20th.
