“Out Of Place”: PM Rowley Responds As Kamla Writes To Barbados PM On Brent Thomas Debacle

By Newsroom

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has condemned what he describes as an out of place intrusion by Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, in writing to Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley on the Brent Thomas fiasco.

“Trinidad and Tobago has one Government and that is the duly elected representative of the people,” PM Rowley said in a brief statement issued on Thursday night.

“There is a role for the Opposition and a role and responsibility for the Government in managing the affairs of the state of Trinidad and Tobago. The latest self-promotion of the Leader of the Opposition as an insertion into the business of the handling of the sensitive Brent Thomas matter between the Government of Barbados and the Royal Barbados Police Force and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is a wholly unnecessary and out of place intrusion by the Leader of the Opposition,” he added.

Earlier on Thursday, Persad-Bissessar said she felt compelled to take the step in writing to PM Mottley as she was dissatisfied with the response from Dr. Rowley, who has said neither he nor any member of his Cabinet were involved in what is essentially, a police matter.

In his statement, the PM added: “The interest of the people of Trinidad and Tobago will always be better served and protected if the country has one Government at a time.”
