Sean “P Diddy” Combs, has announced his creation of a political party called “Our Black Party”, made up of “elected officials and black activists” whose mission will be to represent the African-American community on the political spectrum.
As Kanye West continues his campaign for the November presidential election, P. Diddy is now heading towards the area.
The rapper and producer made the announcement this Friday via his Twitter account, making it clear that his number one priority is “to get Trump out of office”.
“I’m launching one of the most daring things I’ve ever started. I’m launching a black political party, along with some young elected officials and black activists. It’s called Our Black Party, and it doesn’t matter if you’re Republicans or Democrats … “he wrote.
“The mission is to create a platform to help advance a political agenda that addresses the needs of Black people. So, going forward we aren’t in the same position we are in today.” he continues.
This announcement comes in the midst of the campaign for the US presidential election, which will pit outgoing President Donald Trump against Joe Biden on November 3rd 2020.
In an interview with Charlamagne tha God, Diddy discussed his past controversial comments: “A few months ago, I told everyone, ‘Hold their vote hostage,’” Diddy said. “It would be irresponsible of me to hold our vote hostage, but it would also be irresponsible of me to let this moment pass. The world is watching – and I’m doing whatever I can to make sure from there that we’re part of the story. That we own our policy.”
In another conversation with Naomi Campbell, he also explained that the vote will not be free for either party – and if Biden wants the vote for black people, he should clarify how he is committed to changing their lives.
“It’s business at this point,” Diddy told Campbell. “We cannot fool politicians. So we want to know very clearly – just as Trump has made it clear that he wants to build a wall – Biden needs to make it clear that he wants to change the lives and quality of life of black people or he will not get the vote. I’ll hold the vote hostage if I have to.”
There’s already a website for Our Black Party, OurBlackParty.org. A message on the site, which is soliciting contributions from backers, says, in part, that the party “exists to advance a political agenda that addresses the needs of Black people. We envision an America where Black people are liberated and participate freely in the political, economic, and social systems that work together for our benefits.”
The party says it will “power the Black political agenda by developing a coalition of people and organizations committed to building Black political power and fiercely advocating for radical change that dramatically improves the quality of life for Black people in America.”
