PC Granted $75, 000 Bail on Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm Charges

A Police Constable has been granted bail with a surety of $75,000.00 or an Alternate Cash Bail of $20,000.00 when he appeared virtually before an Couva Magistrates’ Court earlier this week on May 29, to answer to charges of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm.

According to the TTPS:

As part of the bail agreement, he should also stay 100 meters away from the Virtual complainant as well as stay away from the Virtual complainant’s home and workplace. The matter has been adjourned. According to police, around 6:00pm on Saturday 27th May 2023, the complainant arrived at the defendant’s residence and was granted access to the premises through the front door.

An argument ensued between them and as a result the defendant then assaulted the complainant in the kitchen area of his apartment by dealing her several blows about her body. The incident was reported on the same day at the Freeport Police Station and the defendant was subsequently charged on Sunday 28th May 2023, by PC in connection with the offence.

Investigations were spearheaded by W/Supt. (Ag.) Claire Guy-Alleyne and ASP Seecharan, Ag/Inspector Jacob, W/Sgt Charles of the Gender Based Violence Unit.
