PEP Protests at Red House

By Newsroom

The House of Representatives will get down to work in the spanking new Chamber at the Red House on Monday, January 27th, when the Finance Bill will be debated at the sitting which starts at 1 30PM.

Before that, however, the House will dissolve into the Standing Finance Committee at 10 AM to discuss all the proposals in the Finance Bill before it is taken before Parliament.

The Finance Bill is the mechanism where a government rearranges expenditure that was laid out in the Budget Statement. In most cases, money is moved around from various ministries.

Opposite the Red House, where there was pomp and ceremony,  members of the  Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP)  staged a  silent protest in Woodford Square, with the intention of delivering a letter to Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley in which the party is demanding an inquiry into and/or an audit of the Urban Development Company of Trinidad and Tobago  (UDECOTT)  with specific reference to the  contracts awarded  for the renovation of the President’s House as well as the Red House and White Hall which serves as the Office often Prime Minister.

The  PEP  has caused UDECOTT of trying to “ silence public enquiries rather than respond respectfully to them”.
