PM: Approving Gary As Top Cop Was “A Terrible Mistake”

By Newsroom

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has said his decision to support the appointment of Gary Griffith as Police Commissioner in 2018 was the “biggest mistake of his life”.

Speaking on a political platform at the PNM’s meeting in Belmont last evening, Dr. Rowley said he had supported Griffith, despite his political affiliation, because he believed at the time, that he was the best person for the job.

“And that is why when the (Police Service) Commission said that Gary Griffith was the best person for the job as commissioner of police, I take responsibility for giving him a chance and ladies and gentlemen, that is the biggest mistake I have ever made.” the PM said.

Referencing the recent audit into the issuance of firearms licenses by the TTPS, Prime Minister Rowley said it made for “very troubling reading”.
