PM Instructs Cabinet-Appointed Committee To Review Proposals For Purchase Of Refinery

By Newsroom

A Cabinet appointed Evaluation Committee has been instructed by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley to take a look at the proposals put forward by the negotiating parties regarding purchase of the Petrotrin refinery. It comes on the heels of OWTU head Ancel Roget calling for same after government revealed the union’s proposal had been rejected.

A statement from the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries on Monday stated: “This examination and any subsequent recommendations deriving therefrom will be separate and apart from the work and determination of the Cabinet Sub-Committee, which has also received the submissions. The comments and recommendations of the reconstituted Evaluation Committee will be submitted directly to the Cabinet.”

The Committee has been given roughly one month to look at the proposals and must submit a report by November 30th.

On Saturday, Energy Minister Franklin Khan said the OWTU’s company, Patriotic Energies and Technologies Limited had been rejected for failing to satisfy three main concerns: purchase price financing, restart financing and the question of who will be given first priority lean on the asset.
