PM: Places Of Worship To Reopen On Monday, Religious Leaders Urged To Promote Vaccination

By Newsroom

Places of worship will be allowed to resume activity from Monday, having been ordered to close at the end of April as part of measures to limit the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, while speaking at a media conference following Cabinet’s three-day retreat at the PM’s official residence at Blenheim House in Tobago.

“So you can go back to church, not all of you at once. Because we are asking that the managers of these places of worship use 25% of their normal capacity,” the Prime Minister announced.

Religious leaders have also been encouraged to use their influence to encourage worshippers to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

“We are also encouraging the leadership in every church, mandir, mosque…wherever you do (sic) to encourage the participants to get vaccinated. Because being vaccinated improves out safety… While we worship God, we do what God says, which is to tie your camel,” Dr. Rowley said.

The new Public Health Regulation also requires that services must not exceed an hour.
