PM Rowley: Government Is Not Looking Into Mandatory Vaccination

By Newsroom

The government will depend on moral suasion and science-centred messaging to convince people to get vaccinated against the Covid19 virus- but at the end of the day, as Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley says, each person has their individual right to decide whether they take they jab or not.

Speaking at Saturday’s Covid-19 media conference, Dr. Rowley responded to concerns in the public domain, that a new policy would essentially make it mandatory to be vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus. “The matter of mandatory response is not before the Cabinet and we are not there at this moment,” PM Rowley said.

Still, he is hoping the number of ‘pro-vaxxers’ outweigh those who are against it, in order to achieve the highest level of herd immunity at a national level.

In an attempt to convert ‘anti-vaxxers’, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley urged the grouping to trust in the science which has proven to be effective.

“Get high on the idea of being among the vaccinated who have the best chance of facing this virus,” he pleaded.

The Prime Minister said he was pleased that the topic of mandatory vaccination has found its way in the public domain this past week, noting that there are several vaccines for other diseases which are administered daily in the healthcare system, without any controversy.

“If we do, God forbid, find ourselves in a situation where a a virus or bacteria is killing people like flies, and we have a medication that can be administered to people, I don’t know that I’ll be inventing any new positions in this country- because we have done that before. There are a number of vaccines that are applied to the population on a daily basis, without any of the Moon landings, or Mars landings for that matter,” he said.
