PM Rowley Leads Three-Day Cabinet Retreat In Tobago

By Newsroom

Cabinet members will begin their three-day retreat today, chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley at Blenheim House, the Prime Minister’s official residence in Tobago.

The retreat, which is government’s first since returning to office in August 2020, is expected to largely include discussion about the way forward as it relates to the pandemic, including plans for the various ministries, with consideration for the current economic climate.

Talks will also focus on subsidies and channelling some of the US$644million which Trinidad and Tobago received from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The funds, which are as a result of the IMF’s global distribution of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs),  pushed T&T’s foreign reserves over US7billion, according to Finance Minister Colm Imbert.

“The US$644M in additional SDRs from the IMF gives the Government more flexibility to inject USD into the commercial banking sector for distribution to the public and to make more Forex available through the EximBank to the manufacturing sector and to importers of essential goods,” Imbert tweeted on August 24th.
