PM Weighs In On Recent Fatal Incident At NiQuan Plant

By Newsroom

Operations at the NiQuan Plant were only allowed to restart following an explosion in April 2021, after remedial works were implemented.

This from Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, as he responded to an Opposition question in the House of Representatives this afternoon.

The question follows a recent incident in which employee Allan Lane Ramkissoon suffered fatal burn injuries while preparing for maintenance works on the plant.

Asked whether the report on Ramkissoon’s death will be made public, Prime Minister Rowley said he was unable to say at this time.

“It all depends on what the report is and whose report it is. But once the circumstances and the legal authorities permit, then the relevant minister would make that commitment. I would not presume to make it,” the PM told the Lower House on Tuesday.

He later added, “If it can be made public under the specific authorities, then it will be. If it’s, on the other hand, a report coming from the company, then of course, we have constraints.”
