PNM Government To Be Sworn In Tomorrow

By Newsroom

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley and his newly formed Cabinet will officially be sworn into office at 4pm on Wednesday.

At a People’s National Movement media conference at Balisier House on Tuesday, Dr. Rowley revealed he had received the invitation by President Paula-Mae Weekes, which he intended to accept.

Wednesday’s planned swearing will come following a week of election controversy, with the United National Congress requesting recounts for five seats and leveling claims of election fraud.

Now that the recounts have been completed and the PNM retains its 22-19 victory, the flow of government will continue.

Dr. Rowley says his new Cabinet will focus more heavily on agriculture and digitalization, however  he has not given any hints as to ministerial appointments.

“We would see some changes that would focus on some of the major initiatives that we have to do. One of the areas that you would see is the area of agriculture, you will see us trying to give agriculture a bit of a centre state because we intend to do a lot of work in agriculture and if you don’t see it tomorrow, you’ll see it later on,” he said.

It’s quite possible some faces may return to the Cabinet under their previously held portfolios, as the PM said he opted for some degree of continuity in the government.

On the digitalization front, government will focus on rolling out Ministry of Technology and Digital Records, as was promised in the PNM manifesto.
