The TTPS is claiming new evidence has emerged that Kaia Sealy was armed when her partner Joshua Samaroo was fatally shot.
Police allege Samaroo and Sealy drove a white Toyota Aqua to Maloney to sell a firearm and drugs to an informant. The informant claims the gun was initially hidden in Sealy’s bra.
When officers approached, Samaroo sped off, triggering a high-speed chase that ended when the vehicle crashed into a drain in St. Augustine. Officers also claim that while Samaroo raised his hands, Sealy pointed a Glock 9mm pistol through the rear windscreen at them.
It was also stated that an officer reported hearing muffled explosions from inside the car before returning fire. Police state they later recovered a Glock 9mm pistol and three spent shells from inside the couple’s vehicle.
Sealy maintains they were running errands when Samaroo met a man in Maloney. After a tense exchange, Samaroo reversed and drove away as a police vehicle pulled up. She also claims she repeatedly begged Samaroo to pull over during the pursuit, but he refused.
Following the crash, Sealy states Samaroo put both hands out the window before police opened fire. Warrants have been issued for Sealy on charges of manslaughter and three counts of shooting with intent. Sealy is currently out of the country receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during the incident, while her legal team challenges the police investigation.
