Police Arrest Five People in Central with Gun and Ammo

Five robbery suspects have been arrested and another man who was found with ammunition detained following an exercise in the Central Division over the past 24 hours.

According to the TTPS, around 6:15 pm on 29th November 2023, PC Joseph and PC Dass of the Central Division Task Force (CDTF), Area South, were on mobile patrol along Rivulet Road, Couva, when they spotted a white Nissan Tiida, matching the description of a vehicle reported to be involved in a recent robbery.

The officers pursued and eventually intercepted the vehicle along the north-bound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, in the vicinity of the tunnel.

There were five male occupants in the vehicle, including two locals and three Venezuelans. When officers searched the car they found one Ruger Pistol with a magazine containing 17 rounds of ammunition. The five men, a 24-year-old and 30-year-old from Laventille, and three Venezuelans 23, 24, and 25, all from Carib Street, San Fernando, were arrested and conveyed to the Couva Police Station.

PC Marshall of Couva CID and PC Dass of CDTF, Area South, are continuing enquiries.

Also, earlier today, officers of Area North, including Operations Support Staff, Chaguanas CID and Cunupia CID, along with members of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment, conducted an Operation Blue Line Exercise, which included periodic stop and search checks. While at the Hassarath Road Intersection, Cunupia, the party of officers stopped a black Nissan B13 motor vehicle, with one occupant. When they searched the driver they found a firearm magazine, with two rounds of ammunition on his person. 

He was unable to account for the items and was arrested. He was also charged for Driving Without a Valid Certificate of Insurance, Driving Without a Driver’s Permit and Failing to give Fingerprint Impressions. Enquiries are continuing.
