Police Arrest Six in Weekend Exercises

Six people were arrested over the weekend during anti-crime exercises, conducted across the country by the TTPS. A firearm and a quantity of narcotics were also seized by officers.

According to a statement from the TTPS, in the North Eastern Division, Task Force officers conducted an exercise between 10 am and 2 pm, on Sunday 5th March 2023, during which they proceeded to Second Caledonia, Morvant.

There they observed a man wanted in connection with a Barataria homicide which occurred on February 26th, 2023. The suspect was arrested and taken to the Morvant Police Station. The same party of officers then proceeded to Cipriani Avenue, where they stopped a 23-year-old man from Morvant.

A search resulted in officers finding one silver and black Beretta pistol loaded with one magazine containing 14 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

The suspect was arrested in connection with the find. Meanwhile, in the Eastern Division, Task Force officers conducted an exercise in the Sangre Grande district between 10 am and 2 pm, yesterday.

During the exercise, an 18-year-old man of Sangre Grande was arrested for possession of a quantity of marijuana and a quantity of cash.

The same party of officers then proceeded to Northeastern Settlement, where they conducted a search of a bushy area. There, they found a quantity of marijuana. And, officers of the Matura Police Station conducted an exercise between 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm, yesterday, during which they received a report of persons interfering with vehicles at Salybia Beach, Salybia.

On arriving at the location, the officers held three suspects, ages 18 to 31, in connection with the report.

Investigations are ongoing into all the above matters.
