Police Arrest Two in Claxton Bay – Gun and Marijuana Seized

A firearm and over one kilogramme of cannabis were seized by the South Highway Patrol Unit in Claxton Bay during an exercise conducted yesterday February 15. Two men were arrested in connection with the find.

According to a police report, around 11:45 am, during a stop and search exercise, officers stopped a white Nissan Frontier proceeding east along Cedar Hill Road with two occupants. During a search of the vehicle, they allegedly found two brown rectangular blocks containing 1.068 kilogrammes of cannabis.

Further checks of the vehicle allegedly revealed a firearm containing a magazine and one round of nine-millimetre ammunition. The 28-year-old driver from Gasparillo and 42-year-old passenger from Claxton Bay were arrested and are expected to be charged with Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Ammunition, and Possession of Cannabis for Trafficking.

A 54-year-old man was also arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence during the exercise. The exercise which took place between 10 pm yesterday and 2 am this morning, was coordinated by W/Insp Mohan and Sgt Jairaj, supervised by Cpl Maharaj, Cpl (Ag.) Jacob and included PCs Theroulde, Roopan, Lugo, Harris, and WPC Roberts.
