Police Called To Deal With a Crowd Seeking Food Cards in Tabaquite

By Newsroom

Police were called in to calm the angry people who gathered outside the office of the MP for Tabaquite Suruj Rambachan on Monday morning seeking public assistance through food cards. “To service twenty schools and approximately 1600 students the office of the MP has received only 197 cards. In addition, unemployed persons have begun to visit the office looking for food,” Rambachan said via a press release on Monday “These food cards have all been distributed using the guidelines given. There are, however, hundreds of people still seeking assistance. Additionally, there are people living within the Tabaquite constituency whose children attend schools in other areas and are visiting us to get these food cards. The problem is, we are not in possession of those schools lists, so we cannot issue cards to them, adding to the concerns and confusion,” he noted. “The Ministry needs to come out and remind the public that these cards are for children who depend on the school feeding program and not for everyone. My staff has been verbally abused over the past week as people are not properly informed as to how the cards are to be distributed,” the Tabaquite MP noted.
