A Police Constable attached to the Capital City Patrol Unit (CCPU) Port of Spain Division, has been denied bail, after he appeared before Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor, at the Port-of-Spain 5th Magistrates’ Court. According to the TTPS, No 7283 Police Constable DEON INCE, was arrested during an intelligence-led exercise by officers of the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB), after he allegedly solicited and received a sum of money from a victim of a report of Robbery with Violence.

The matter was postponed to 23rd October, 2023. According to police reports, on Friday 6th October 2023, a woman walking along Charlotte Street, Port of Spain, was robbed of a quantity of Trinidad and Tobago currency, United States of America currency, her passport and other personal items. This incident went viral via social media thereafter. Later that day, a police officer approached the victim at the Nelson Street Housing Development Plannings, Port of Spain, and she reported to him what happened to her earlier that day. He allegedly assured her that by midnight he would get back her stolen items.

On Saturday 7th October, the officer again met with the victim and allegedly assured her that he would get back her items, but she had to reward him for his efforts and a further reward when he retrieved the items for her.

The woman made a report at the office of the Professional Standards Bureau on Tuesday 10th October, and WPC Pakeera was detailed to investigate the matter. On Wednesday 11th October, the woman met with the officer at Independence Square, Port-of-Spain, where she allegedly handed over the sum of $1000.00 to the officer. He was immediately arrested by a team of officers from the Professional Standards Bureau which included ASP Francis, Cpl Joseph and WPC Pakeera. Woman Senior Superintendent Suzette Martin and Senior Superintendent Montrichard supervised the investigations.

On Friday 13th October 2023, after meeting with the Director of Public Prosecutions Mr. Roger Gaspard S.C., he advised that the accused be charged for the offence of Corruptly Receiving the sum of $1000.00 as a reward to do an act in relation to his role as a police officer, contrary to the Prevention of Corruption Act.
