Police help Coast Guard take headcount on party boat

The TTPS is once again calling on the public to stop spreading misinformation. In the latest incident Police Commissioner, Gary Griffith, refuted claims on social media posted that police surrounded a vessel and prevented the passengers from disembarking at the Port-of-Spain Harbour today, Friday 21st February, 2020.

According to a statement the: “TTPS was doing was simply assisting the authorities in a matter where a vessel, which has a capacity to carry 300 persons, left the Port-of-Spain Harbor with much more than the allocated number.”

It also states that: “The captain and crew of the ‘Island Royalty’ were questioned by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) with the assistance of Port State Inspectors of the Maritime Services Division on Friday, 21st February, 2020. Police officers proceeded to the International Waterfront Centre, Port of Spain, where the vessel was subsequently escorted back to shore by the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard, after which officers of the IATF completed a headcount of all patrons.”
