Police Recruits Are Free to Leave, But Not Return.

By Newsroom

Recruits at the Police Academy in St James have been told they are “free to leave whenever they like”. But they will not be allowed to return to put the remaining recruits at risk. This is the Police Commissioner’s response to the recruits who, in an article in the Newsday, said they feel trapped in training and want to go home. Top cop, Gary Griffith, in a news release reminded “all recruits that their present condition provides them the ideal opportunity to be away from the public, and within a controlled and confined environment, with heightened safety and security measures.” “These recruits are hence self-quarantined and not encouraged to interact with the public in person, hence the reason why the training can and would continue until further notice. “ Recruits are currently undergoing physical distancing from persons outside of the training, however social engagement via other forms of communication [phones, social media etc.] are encouraged to remain in touch, “CoP  Griffith said. “In a time of national crisis, when our country is in dire need of leaders who are willing to sacrifice and put service of country before self, young officers in training are also expected to undergo this experience as a real life scenario in crisis management and utilize the opportunity to prepare for same, maintain focus, and complete their training.” Commissioner Griffith continued, “Whilst I do appreciate some recruits will experience some anxiety and may have other pressing family matters to attend to, I have instructed that those who choose to depart the facility are free to do so, we understand this need. “However, they will not be allowed back into the secure facility as we do not wish to expose those recruits who chose to remain, “he warned.
