Police Seize Firearms, Ammunitions, Drugs and Stolen Vehicles During Nationwide Exercises

Several suspects were arrested and firearms, quantities of drugs and ammunition and a stolen vehicle recovered during exercises conducted across several police divisions yesterday. 

In an intelligence led exercise in the Port of Spain Division, during the hours of 5:30am and 6pm on Friday 23rd June, 2023, officers of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), whilst on patrol in Port of Spain area received information about a man armed with a firearm on his waist.

The man was located and searched, resulting in officers finding a Beretta firearm fitted with a magazine and containing three rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The suspect was arrested in connection with the find.

Also on the same date officers proceeded to the Duncan Street area where two known suspects of Port of Spain were arrested for Larceny offences. Officers also held a 28-year-old and a 33-year-old both of Laventille, for marijuana possession and robbery offences.

While in the Duncan Street district, officers also executed a search warrant at a house and found and seized one black and silver 9mm pistol with one magazine containing 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition in the living room area under a couch.

One suspect who was in the house at the time of the search, was arrested in connection with the find.

Meanwhile, in the Southern Division, officers of the Emergency Response Patrol, acting on information, proceeded to Diamond Village, where they conducted a search of a house. The search resulted in the arrest of five suspects and the seizure of one firearm.


And, an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Valencia district between 2 pm and 6 pm yesterday, resulted in the arrest of one suspect and the seizure of a Taurus revolver loaded with four rounds of ammunition, one spent shell and seven
 additional rounds of ammunition.

Finally, in an intelligence-led exercise conducted by officers of the Stolen Vehicles Squad in the North-Eastern Division, during the period 5:15 pm and 10 pm yesterday, one silver Nissan B14 motor vehicle was observed along Coconut Drive, Morvant.

On further checks to the vehicle revealed the engine and chassis numbers were tampered with.

The officers continued enquiries and subsequently detained a suspect for the offence.


Investigations are ongoing into all of the above matters.
