Police Seize Guns and Marijuana during Anti-Crime Exercise

Police have seized three firearms, a quantity of ammunition and marijuana during an anti-crime exercise conducted in various policing divisions yesterday, March 27.

According to the TTPS, Western Division officers conducted a surveillance driven exercise yesterday along the shore line at King Street, Pt Cumana and Carenage. During the exercise, they found a black plastic bag containing five blocked shaped packages, which contained 2,674.5 grams of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $76,223.25.

Additionally, during a search at African Cemetery and Gookool Street Diego Martin, officers seized a Taurus pistol loaded with six rounds of 9-mm ammunition, hidden in a side bag below a concrete rubble.

Around 11am yesterday, Central Division officers proceeded to Exchange Road in Couva, where they observed a Wingroad vehicle parked suspiciously along the roadway. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officers observed a man standing near the vehicle.

When the officers searched the vehicle they found one pistol outfitted with one magazine containing six rounds of 9-mm ammunition, hidden under the driver’s seat. The man was arrested and taken to the Couva Police Station along with the seized items.

Meanwhile, between 8 pm and 11pm yesterday, officers launched a strategic exercise in Santa Cruz district of the North Eastern Division. While proceeding along Providence Gardens, the officers conducted a thorough search of the area and found one Taurus pistol fitted with one magazine and 12 rounds of 9-mm ammunition.

Investigations are continuing.
