A Friday night police exercise in the Arima district led to several arrests being made for breach of the Public Health Regulations, with officers invading a party where 25 people were present.
Officers were on patrol between 7pm and midnight, when upon arriving at Martin Lane, they discovered the group gathered inside a house. They then went to Samaroo Village in Arima, around 11:30 pm, where they observed a group of people standing on the roadway consuming alcohol. Police say the group had been warned on several occasions about breaching the Public Health Ordinance Regulations and as a result five people were arrested and taken to the Arima Police Station.
Earlier that night, a 61 year old shop owner was arrested for failing to close her mini-mart located at Jacob Hill Road in Wallerfield at the stipulated 6pm time. A search of the establishment revealed that she had also been selling alcohol without a license. A group of men who were found liming outside the shop when officers arrived were also ordered to disperse.
